About Me

I have been working as a Counsellor since 1999 when I was awarded the Diploma in Humanistic Counselling validated by Warwick University. I have been influenced by the Humanistic philosophy to counselling which views each individual as essentially constructive and unique and having the potential for growth at emotional, spiritual, cognitive and behavioural levels.

I have also been influenced by the Psychodynamic and Jungian approaches to counselling. I have integrated some principles from these approaches into my practice as a Humanistic Counsellor.

I have studied complementary health in some depth and am interested in the relationship between the mind, body, emotions and the spiritual /meaning making side of human nature.

I am interested in longer term counselling as well as some shorter term.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy which means that I adhere to their code of ethics and receive regular supervision to ensure that I continue to work to the highest standards.

Most of my work is in Private Practice working mainly with individuals or couples of all ages. I have various contracts with companies on an ongoing basis. I have worked at GP surgeries in different parts of Birmingham (Smethwick and Northfield) and had a contract with the Local Authority counselling young people. I have prior experience of management and community work in the voluntary sector.

During my practice as a Counsellor I have gained a wealth of experience counselling people who are wanting:

• to move forward in their life and focus on their growth and development;
• to explore their relationship with themselves as well as others;
• to explore and work through old emotions and experiences;
• to find themselves their inner needs and longings;
• to develop intimacy with themselves as well as others;
• to find satisfaction in their life and to release their inner resources and potential.

I have attended many training courses in this area and have been involved in counselling many people from Asian and Caribbean Backgrounds.

Counselling can be a very courageous journey, sometimes painful and scary but ultimately a rewarding journey. For me I find counselling a very enjoyable and valuable occupation. I feel fortunate to have shared in the lives of so many of my clients.
